The project at hand

Krotos’ vision was to revolutionise the sound design industry by making high-quality, interactive sound accessible to all creatives.

Using Krotos Studio as the key product, we needed to empower creatives of all backgrounds, providing the tools and resources to shape their own projects without the traditional barriers of entry, like costly software or technical expertise.

To support the users of this interactive desktop app, we had to focus on expanding our library to cover a diverse range of use cases, ensuring that our users could find high-quality, professionally recorded, performable presets that fit their needs.

Our direction was clear: we needed to inspire, enable, and elevate every creator, making professional sound design more accessible and inclusive for all.

Preset planning

In every release I needed to aim to enhance the user experience, focusing on flexibility, usability, and efficiency; giving users the power to shape the sound in real-time.

We crafted each content pack with a specific theme and Universal Categorisation System (UCS) category in mind. By researching trends, analysing the most-used categories, and brainstorming interactive potential, I mapped out a monthly release plan that aligned creative vision with technical priorities.
By keeping each month thematic, it made it easier to align with marketing campaigns, ensuring more focused, impactful releases.

AI ambience generator

As a sound designer on the AI Ambience Generator - the first tool of its kind - I played a central role in shaping how AI and real-world sound recordings come together to serve creativity, not replace it.

Built into Krotos Studio, this groundbreaking tool allows users to simply describe a scene with text or an image and instantly generate immersive, project-ready ambience. The AI responds in real time, offering personalised presets that adapt and evolve - all rendered locally in high-quality audio.

My contribution went far beyond supplying sounds. I rethought the entire recording process from the ground up. Because each ambience is generated from isolated layers, I needed to record individual components such as wind through trees, birdsong, flowing water, and insect chatter as building blocks.
This allowed the AI to dynamically mix and respond to user input, enabling endless possibilities for unique soundscapes.

Every sound was captured by our team and the engine was ethically trained on our own library.
That meant no synthetic shortcuts - just expertly recorded, real-world audio crafted with care and intention. This approach guaranteed both the sonic integrity of each ambience and the creative freedom of the user.

Our aim?

Our aim?

Type it.

Hear it.

Shape it.

I’m proud to have helped make that possible. This project represents a new frontier in sound design, and my work ensures that the foundation of that innovation is built on authenticity, precision, and artistic intent and still cares for the creative communities we are a part of.

Goals

It was about more than sound - it was about building a platform that empowered creators while helping shape Krotos’ identity as a bold, accessible, and future-facing leader in sound design.

01

The sound of Innovation

Craft a distinctive sonic identity that captures Krotos’ innovation and energy.

02

Expanding the library

Develop a consistently expanding, UCS-mapped sound library with ongoing value to subscribers and strengthen platform loyalty

03

Where AI meets audio

Blend AI and real-world sound design to drive innovation.

My key goal was to design presets that empowered not just sound designers, but creators of all kinds, from film makers and game devs to content creators which would allow them to craft immersive, professional-grade soundscapes quickly and efficiently.
Our team needed to focus on user-driven creativity, creating sound packs that addressed specific needs while leaving room for exploration and integration into diverse workflows.

By combining premium field recordings with smart, optimised controls, I prioritised building libraries that delivered realism and depth across games, films, virtual environments and beyond.

I had to ensure each preset was built for flexibility, ease of use, and added value, ensuring that users could achieve high-quality results with a minimal learning curve.

The key challenges

Develop a diverse range of high-quality sound presets across multiple UCS categories within a short time frame to minimise user churn and maintain engagement.

Contribute to the development of new product features and interactions, helping to expand the capabilities of the Krotos software.

The role of human creativity - addressing the widespread fear that AI would replace creative professionals.

We want to leverage these technologies to make the process of sound creation as easy and fast as possible, but with the reassurance that all of the sounds pull from real recordings, by real sound recordists.

Final outcomes

Sound was no longer a fixed asset, but a living, responsive element.

Through Krotos Studio, I helped shape a responsive, intuitive sound library that empowers users to create immersive audio more quickly and with greater creative freedom.
By combining precise field recording techniques with AI-enhanced workflows, I developed tools that were not only high-quality but genuinely transformative. This project broke traditional boundaries in sound design - removing technical barriers and redefining how artists interact with sound. It was a revolutionary step forward, merging authenticity with innovation to give creators unprecedented control.

This work also marked a major shift in my own practice as a sound designer. Moving from static audio to interactive, user-controlled assets required rethinking every stage of my process - from recording and editing to how sound is triggered and layered in real time.

Seeing my sounds in use across games, films, and most recently Netflix’s The Four Seasons was a career highlight. It proved how user-first, thoughtful design can have real impact in the creative industries - and how inspiring it is to create tools that empower others to do their best work.

Chances are, you've probably heard Krotos sounds in some of your favourite TV, movies and games

Impact

Krotos Studio marked a major shift in how creators approach sound design, putting flexibility, speed, and creative control into the hands of users at every level.

The sound packs and presets I helped design became key to that experience, offering high-quality, interactive tools that adapted to diverse workflows, from indie developers to global studios including Apple, Disney, Warner Brothers and many more.

My work pushed me to rethink how sound is created, used, and experienced. By isolating sonic elements for interactivity and integrating AI tools into the workflow, I helped develop a smarter, more intuitive way of working with sound.
The result was a powerful, performance-ready platform that didn’t just streamline production - it unlocked new creative possibilities for its users.

Sound design shouldn’t be a luxury. With 200+ presets behind me, I’m helping creators work faster, think freer, and push the boundaries of sound together.
